"The Modern Prometheus",  the subtittle for Frankenstein, often gets dropped from modern publications and is only mentioned in introduction ... 

Why would they do that?
My only explanation is that it simplifies the themes of the book and allows the reader to view the novel as pure science fiction, making it an easier read. 
is this good or bad?
